A revolutionary movement that originated in Paris around 1907, fragmenting objects into geometric forms and presenting multiple perspectives simultaneously on a single plane. It was pioneered by Pablo Picasso, whose Les Demoiselles d’Avignon is often cited as its watershed moment, and Georges Braque, with later contributions from Juan Gris—as in his Still Life with Flowers—and Fernand Léger. It succeeded Post-Impressionism—particularly the structural experiments of Paul Cézanne—and fundamentally broke from traditional single-point perspective.
