How to get RetroBat games into Playnite without duplicating ROMs or re-scraping metadata.
There is no dedicated RetroBat plugin for Playnite — they are separate frontends. Integration is done by pointing Playnite at RetroBat’s ROM folders and reusing its scraped metadata.
1. Add the Emulator
- Open Playnite > Main menu > Library > Configure Emulators
- Click Add, name it (e.g., “PCSX2”)
- Browse to the emulator executable inside RetroBat (e.g.,
<RetroBat>\emulators\pcsx2\pcsx2-qt.exe) - Playnite may auto-detect a built-in profile — if not, create one manually:
- Supported file types:
iso, bin, chd, cso(for PS2) - Launch arguments:
"{ImagePath}"
- Supported file types:
2. Import Games
- In Configure Emulators > Auto-scan configurations, click Add
- Point the scan folder to
<RetroBat>\roms\ps2\(or whichever system) - Select the emulator and profile
- Save, then Main menu > Update Game Library > Update Emulated Folders
Repeat for each system you want in Playnite.
3. Reuse RetroBat’s Metadata (ESMetadata Plugin)
Instead of scraping again, import what RetroBat already scraped from its gamelist.xml files:
- Download the
.pextfile from ESMetadata releases - Double-click it — Playnite installs it automatically
- Restart Playnite
- Configure in Add-ons > Extension settings > ESMetadata
- Select games > right-click > Edit > Download Metadata > choose ESMetadata
This pulls covers, descriptions, ratings, and artwork without duplicate scraping.
