Playnite is a free, open-source universal game library manager for Windows. It aggregates games from Steam, GOG, Epic, and emulated sources into a single UI with metadata scraping, custom themes, and a fullscreen mode (F11) for controller-friendly navigation.
- Website: playnite.link
- Extensible via plugins from the addon browser
Emulator Support
Playnite has built-in emulator profiles for common emulators. Custom emulators can be added manually via Library > Configure Emulators, specifying the executable, supported file extensions, and launch arguments.
Games are imported by pointing auto-scan configurations at ROM folders (e.g., RetroBat’s roms\ directories).
Useful Plugins
- ESMetadata — imports metadata from EmulationStation
gamelist.xmlfiles (covers, descriptions, ratings). Useful for reusing RetroBat’s scraped data - Nintendo Metadata Plugin — pulls data from Nintendo eShop
- IGDB (built-in) — general-purpose metadata source, good for cover art
