The Orea Brewer V4 is a modular, flat bottom coffee brewer with a capacity of 1-2 cups designed by Orea. It comes with four different bottoms: a fast bottom, the classic Orea design, an open bottom and an apex bottom to mimic a conical brewer. A popular accessory for the V4 is the Negotiator, a conical tool used to fit almost any paper flush agains the walls of the brewer to reduce bypass.

The V4’s ideal range is to brew using 12 to 24 grams of coffee, and Orea recommends to pour at around 5 g/s. Interestingly enough, the brand also recommends not to pre-heat the V4: the plastic is a good insulator, and the official recipes are designed without pre-heating in mind.

Classic Bottom for Orea V4

The classic bottom is a possible bottom to use with the Orea V4 modular brewing system:

The design that got us here – a semi-restricted bottom that brings with it more intensity with unique balance and sweetness. It goes well with almost any coffee, but it is particularly good with coffee that has been naturally processed or more heavily fermented. This bottom can also be paired well with medium or darker roast levels.

Fast Bottom for Orea V4

The fast bottom is a possible bottom to use with the Orea V4 modular brewing system:

A beauty and a beast, our new signature design stands out from the rest. There is no restriction and no way water can clog up. It goes well with any coffee, but our recommendation is to use it with washed, dense coffees in particular. You can always clog a paper filter, but you won’t clog this brewer.

Open Bottom for Orea V4

The open bottom is a possible bottom to use with the Orea V4 modular brewing system:

A very unique design that we have used in our glass and porcelain brewers. The open design allows the filter to bend and concentrate flow more centrally. This results in a distinctive acidity structure. Suitable for any coffee, but we highly suggest it for bright, juicy, fruity naturals or more fermented.

Our first take on “conical” but also very much its own thing. While conventional conical filters can be utilized with this bottom, it really shines when coupled with the Apex tips of our new Negotiator. We suggest checking the guides for this one!

Recipe adjustment per bottom

As per the recipes page for the V4:

The same recipe can work on all of our V4 bottoms as they are all fast, consistent, and performant. However, we normally recommend to grind a little finer on the FAST bottom, a little coarser on the CLASSIC bottom and to introduce more central pouring on the OPEN and APEX bottoms.
